A couple of days ago my friend Celita asked me what word God gave me for, or to name this new year. These past years, before the year would start I would already have my answer to that question. But not this year, the end of 2024 went a bit different. Very full the first half and then very calm the second half, but as a whole: lovingly blessed. After 14 years I again spent the December holidays with my sister and mother. And so I utterly enjoyed every moment of this thoughtful present God gave me.
I did know the word or the words of the year would be something related to growth, harvesting, seeing results, implementation, and consistency, but it hadn’t been refined yet. I knew where it was going to. God was already guiding me to that and speaking to me about that, some whispers here and there. As you’ve seen the last years the words of the year have been about planting, and so we continue the theme. All it was missing was me taking my time to sit and have this specific conversation with God, “what is the word or are the words of the year, Abba?” And as I asked, prayed and stayed sensitive to hear back, the words came to me through a sermon I started watching on Sunday the 5th: First Fruits.
As last year I went through a lot of months of reorganizing, God revealing a lot to me, and me understanding what needs to happen, what I need to do, this next step in my purpose or part of my life’s purpose. Now that I have all the tools and have been planting and planting seeds, I have the right soil, the right water, the right sun that I need for it to grow; it is now the year of First Fruits.
So yes, the fruits will come, but what is important in first fruits? It’s the consistency: allowing the first fruits to present theirselves, to grow well, to do well. They are very fragile, they are very new, they are babies and need a lot of attention. The proper and the right attention and in the right amount. So I would need to take good and measured care of them: not too much sun, not too much exposure, not too much or too little water, but just enough, make sure the soil is right, the right food and nutrients, consistently make sure that all things are right, and are continuing to align and working together, so the first fruits can be the first fruits. So that they can grow as they may… in other words, so that God can do the growing. Allowing the first fruits to bloom and be fruitful and healthy and beautiful and bright and vibrant.
1 Corinthians 3:6-7 [HCSB] — “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.”
First Fruits as well indicate that they are God’s. It’s my reminder of my offering. And as I have surrendered all to God and keep surrendering over and over again, God placed or kept me on this path He created for me, called me to it, prepared me for it, and I have obeyed, surrendered, believed, and trusted. I know that all that is to come is His. All that is about to grow, is His, His creation, growth by Him. Before I see the blessing of God, I need to give in faith. And so I did, do and will continue to another year and all the days of my life. All blessings, all fruits are His. It’s all for His glory. Even more so these first fruits. His First Fruits.
Matthew 16:25 [HCSB] — “For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will find it.”
So welcome to my year of First Fruits: Continuing a Clear Consistency in Care. Thank you for sticking with me and Happy Readings!
