What if the rain pouring down
Wasn’t meant to make me drown,
What if the lightning and thunder
Was meant for more than bringing me under,

What if, though flesh I only know
The spirit be a seed
And the darkness of life’s toils;
The fertile soil it needs

What if it all
Terrifying though it be
Is really meant
To benefit me

I finally see the thing I need
And it lies beyond the dark I fear
This rock beneath will lead me there
His growth and pruning keep me there
